Just a max hour drive from Rijeka you will find Lokve. The area is defined by lush green forests and a blue cristal clear lake. There is not a lot tourist infrastructure here. So you will have wonderful nature nearly for your own. The lake of Lokve “Lokvarsko jezero” invites to jump into the water, ride the bicycle and go kayaking. Lokvarsko Lake is a favorite place for fishermen. It is rich in trout, carp, chub and many other species of fish. This is still a hidden gem of Croatia.
Furthermore there is one of the biggest caves of Croatia, the cave of Lokve or “Špilja Lokvarka”. A beautiful cave positioned near the small villiage of Lokve also next to the Risnjak National Park. The cave is quite big and advantarous, it was dicovered in 1912. Beware to bring comfortable and secure shoes, the way in the cave can get slippy and furthermoreo warm clothes, as it gets pretty cold down there. If you are not advanturous by nature, I would recommend a professional tourist guide, with whom visitors can admire four galleries. The others have not been fully explored and represent a challenge for speleologists and other enthusiasts in search of new discoveries. The cave has a constant air temperature of 6.5°-8°C, which means that a visit during the summer months is very refreshing.
