The museum MMSU, Muzej moderne i suvremene umjetnosti, moved into new premises in the Benčić complex in 2017. The old sugar factory has dilapilated throughout the years and will become an art-and-culture cluster, as Rijeka was chosen to be European Capital of Cuture in 2020. The space is ideally suited to the museum’s busy programme of exhibitions, which will involve rotating selections of the MMSU’s huge permanent collection as well as individual and group shows by leading international artists. Whether you like the displays or not, it’s the perfect place to contemplate Rijeka’s ongoing transformation into a post-industrial city of art and leisure. A modern museum that positions Rijeka as a cultural hub in Croatia. And a good place to go if it’s raining.

The first exhibition in 2017: Tomislav Gotovac “Pun mi je kurac”
