The old walls surround Dubrovnik, to protect the UNESCO world heritage city from the sea and attacks 7th Century. The Old City the most attractive part of Dubrovnik and maybe also of the whole Adriatic. The old part occupies a rather small area, it is best to sightsee on foot. Especially walking on the Old Walls of Dubrovnik will give you a great start to learn more about the old city.
The walls are 1,940 metres long and you can walk all the way around them (it usually takes about 2 hours). You will climb the highest point of Dubrovnik’s Old Town – the rounded Minceta Fortress, from where you can enjoy amazing views over the city’s red roofs and St John’s Fortress, housing the Aquarium and Maritime Museum, which is located at the entrance of the Old Harbour.
Lately Dubrovnik became very known by “King’s Landing” as Dubrovnik is filming location for Games of Thrones. There are several sites in the Old City where Game of Thrones was filmed which includes the Pile and Ploče gate, the St. Dominika street, along the city walls includes the Bokar fort and the Minčeta tower.
